With 92% of New Years resolutions failing – lets be the 8%! I have come up with 4 key things you need to do to be successful in your Health and Fitness in 2017. 4 REAL steps, that are real, that are REAListic and will help you REALise that you are not another statistic, you are the REAL deal!

R is for Reason. Have a strong reason why you want to be fitter and healthier, make that reason so strong that when you remind yourself why you started, you keep going. The reason needs to really mean something to you. The reason, is why you set your goals, the reason is why you exercise when you are tired, your reason is why you are prioritising your health and fitness, and the reason is why you continue to nourish your body even when the going gets tough. What is your reason?

E is for Enjoy. Choose exercise and healthy foods that you enjoy in some manner. The enjoyment can be from actually doing the activity, from the sense of achievement or endorphins you feel afterwards, the enjoyment or fun from exercising with others, the sense of satisfaction from fueling yourself with nourishing foods, the enjoyment from having more energy or the positive effect it has on your mental health etc. Enjoy what you are doing and you are much more likely to continue doing it. Where you are struggling to have fun, find ways to help yourself to enjoy it instead of giving up.

A is for Analyse. Boring, but analysing your barriers to exercise and healthy eating, and what is working for you and what isn’t along the way, will help you to continue to go forward. If you are aware of your barriers and you learn from your good and bad days, it will help you to keep going even when things get hectic. When things aren’t going well, stop, analyse why, come up with solutions and voila you are still on track.

L is for Live. Live your new healthy ways by making sure they are realistic and will fit into your life. There is no point in starting something that is way too challenging, or that will not fit with you. Life is for living, and exercise and healthy eating will enhance this, but you need it to work for you. This may mean small steps to start with, and improvements each day. This will help to make your new healthy ways a part of who you are and what you do. Live it, Love it, Be it.
